Frequently Asked Questions about
Woodmoor PTSA Membership

How does Woodmoor PTSA support my child?

PTSA is proud to have sponsored, funded or staffed a variety of events and programs. Here are a few examples:

  • In the classroom: Scholastic News, art docent supplies & art docents, teacher & library grants.
  • Outside the classroom: Staff Appreciation, After School Programs, Parent Education, Movie Nights, Popcorn Fridays, Science Fair, Diversity Awareness Fair, Multicultural Night...and more!

Why join Woodmoor PTSA?

We are part of the National Parent Teacher Association® (PTA) which is the oldest child advocacy organization in the United States. The National PTA provides parents and families with a powerful legislative voice to speak on behalf of every child and the best tools to help their children be safe, healthy, and successful—in school and in life.

Your membership is your voice (legislative voice) for the children of Woodmoor Elementary. The more members our PTA has, the more voting delegates we receive at the state level. More voting delegates means more votes that support the interests of our students and families. Our kids are worth the investment and a strong PTA illustrates our community’s support to our school and children.

Is my membership fee tax-deductible?

Yes! Your membership fee, additional memberships, any memberships you sponsor - and any additional donation amount IS tax deductible!!

Who can join?

Anyone can be a PTSA member!

PTSA membership is open to everyone! Parents, guardians, grandparents, teachers, staff, alumni, community members, neighbors, etc.

PTSA is an inclusive organization and we invite all adults who care about children and schools to join. Although you may still participate in PTSA activities without a formal membership, by joining you gain the right to vote on PTSA issues - from board members to budgets! Join Today!

Why is the 2-Person Membership $30 when the Single Membership costs $20?

We offer this discount to encourage more of our families to select the 2-Person option as our membership numbers dictate the number of votes we get at the Legislative Assembly and State Convention each year. The more members we have, the louder our voice is when it comes time to vote.

If I can't afford a membership, can I still get one?

YES! We have completely confidential membership subsidies that are available to anyone who requests. Request a subsidy by emailing ouMembership Chair. Only the membership chair will know who requested one and she will not share that information. She will request that the treasurer mark one of the available subsidies as used - and she will enter the membership into the database like every other membership.

As a PTSA member, do I need to volunteer?

It is optional how active of a member you would like to be. We welcome our wonderful volunteers in the programs and events we plan for the year! We also encourage member participation in general meetings and other activities. However, the amount of involvement with the PTSA is your choice. Becoming a member is enough!

Do I need to come to meetings?

NO-- you do not have to attend any meetings!!! There is no meeting requirement for members. But we'd love to see you! PTSA offers general membership meetings monthly September through June on the first Tuesday of the month, and we work hard to use the time to communicate important information and share programs on topics of interest to our families. Meetings are a great way to connect with other people in our school community and learn about the goings-on at Woodmoor Elementary.

Woodmoor PTSA pays dues to local, state, and national PTAs for each member it has.
